Dear colleagues,
First of all, thank you very much for the nice discussion we had in the
last seminar session about the aim of the seminar sessions and all the
suggestions. To give the discussion the value it deserves, I am sharing
with you a summary of the conclusions we shared to take them into
account in the coming seminars.
Related to this, the main objectives of the seminar series are the
following:
1. These seminars aim to offer a platform for students and postdocs to
train their communication skills. Not all people have the opportunity to
give talks at conferences that often, so these seminars offer a safe
environment in which to practice and find your talk style. So, use your
spot wisely, preparing the talk with time and care.
2. These seminars aim to provide a platform for sharing the latest
research endeavors within the groups of our program and the techniques
we use so we can boost collaborations between groups and use them to
increase our research impact. For that, I advise making presentations
with a big focus on the introduction and in-depth explanation of the
methods you use and their potential.
3. This seminar aims to give feedback on the results the speaker is
sharing, taking advantage of the broad range of backgrounds in the
audience. So, as an attendee, I encourage everyone to participate
actively in discussions and questions, regardless of their level of
familiarity with the topic.
4. The seminar series offers an opportunity for new people to be
presented and share news within the program. We will give space for the
new people to be introduced so we all get to know each other,
facilitating the communication between different group members and
promoting new member integration. Use the seminars to share news such as
new congresses coming, thesis defense dates, or anything you consider
interesting to others, using the seminars as a communication platform.
Related to the presentation format, I sent an email about it a while
ago. Please check that email before preparing your presentation. If you
are a new member and you did not receive it, please let me know so I
will share it with you.
A final reminder: Is it possible to obtain a participation certificate
for the people giving talks? To obtain your certificate, please send me
an email to sara.hernandez en imdea.org specifying the date and the title
of your talk, and I will prepare it for you.
Thank you all for your participation in this seminar series and for
helping increase their impact based on all interests. I am open to any
suggestions you consider can help improve these seminars, so please feel
free to share them with me anytime.
See you soon!
Sara.
